The park uses Parka for online payments and also provides payment machines in the parking area. Confirm the plate and vehicle category before completing payment.

Keep the same-day validity in mind
The paid regional fee remains valid until midnight on that date, and the vehicle can leave and return during that period.

Allow Time Before Tour Check-In
Arriving in the area is not the same as being ready at the operator's meeting point. Allow time to park, pay, find the correct base and use facilities.

Parking Starts the Day
From Skaftafellsstofa, visitors can begin the S1 glacier trail, walk toward Svartifoss, check current information or find operator meeting points. Your real walking time begins after the car is parked.

The 4.1 km glacier visitor trail starts east of Skaftafellsstofa and is estimated at 1-1.5 hours.

For Svartifoss
The S2 loop begins by the visitor centre and requires about two hours plus your chosen stopping time.

For a guided tour
Use the operator's named meeting point and check-in time. “Skaftafell” alone is not precise enough.

A larger passenger vehicle uses a different fee category from a standard car with five or fewer seats.
Same-day discount
The park states that a 50% discount applies when another fee-based Vatnajökull service area was visited earlier that date.
Reduced-mobility exemption
P-card holders can request an exemption in advance. The park processes requests during office hours and confirms by email.
