01Core editorial principles
We avoid presenting a single experience as suitable for everyone. A good guide explains tradeoffs and helps readers identify the option that fits their timing, transport, ability, group and season.
- Accuracy before speed or promotional appeal.
- Primary sources before summaries when practical facts are involved.
- Clear distinction between editorial guidance and commercial links.
- Specific language about seasons, locations, difficulty and limitations.
- Visible correction when a material published claim changes.
- Respect for the landscape, local rules and visitor safety.
02Our source hierarchy
For park access, trails and facilities, we prioritise the responsible public authority. For roads and weather, we prioritise Icelandic road and meteorological services. For emergency and outdoor safety, we use official safety organisations and park guidance.
Operator and booking-platform pages are appropriate sources for their own products, such as stated duration, meeting point, equipment, group format and age restrictions. They are not treated as independent proof that a product is the best choice.
- Official government, park, road, weather and safety sources.
- Direct information from the operator responsible for a service.
- Established destination and mapping sources used for context.
- Secondary reporting only when it adds relevant, verifiable detail.
03Research and review workflow
Before publication, a page is checked for its main search intent, the decisions a visitor needs to make and the claims that require verification. Operational facts are compared with current source material and links are tested.
The page is then reviewed for internal consistency, readable structure, misleading certainty, commercial pressure and unsafe implications. A final pass checks titles, descriptions, headings and internal links so search visibility does not come at the expense of clarity.
04Commercial content and recommendations
Tour pages may contain comparison tools, partner links and calls to view availability. A commercial page still follows the same accuracy rules as an informational guide. Payment, commission rate or partner status does not guarantee inclusion or a favourable conclusion.
Where we have not personally tested an experience, we do not imply that we have. We describe the product using verified information, explain who it may suit and identify the details the traveller should confirm with the operator.
05Updates, dates and changing conditions
The last-checked date indicates when the page or its operational sources were most recently reviewed. It is not a promise that every condition remains unchanged after that date.
Parking systems, opening hours, tour inventory, minimum ages, trail access and seasonal conditions may change. Where possible, we avoid repeating volatile figures across many pages and direct readers to a primary source for the live answer.
06Corrections and accountability
Readers, local organisations and operators can request a factual review. A request should identify the page, disputed statement and supporting source. We assess the evidence, not the commercial interest of the person making the request.
Material errors are corrected promptly and documented according to our corrections policy. Minor spelling or formatting changes may be made without a separate notice.
